How Often Should You Get a Massage?
This is one of the most common questions I get from clients, and the honest answer is: it depends on your body, your lifestyle, and your goals.
For general maintenance
For many people, massage once a month — or even every other month — is a great rhythm for regular maintenance. This works well for managing everyday tension, stress, and the general wear and tear of life. In practical terms, frequency is often guided by what your extended health benefits allow, and that’s perfectly okay.
For pain, injuries, or heavy training
If you’re dealing with more persistent pain, recovering from an injury, or training hard (whether for work, sport, or life in general), you may benefit from massage more frequently, at least temporarily.
In these cases, I often suggest starting with one session and paying attention to how long the benefits last. For some people, relief may last a few days; for others, it can be weeks. Every body responds differently, and that variability is completely normal.
Listening to your body
Rather than locking into a rigid schedule, I encourage clients to book based on their body’s feedback. When you notice symptoms returning, that can be a good indicator it’s time for another treatment.
Our long-term goal: independence
While massage can be incredibly helpful, the goal is never to create dependence on treatment. My approach is to help clients feel better, move better, and gain tools they can use independently at home.
Over time, we aim to:
Reduce pain and tension
Improve your ability to self-manage
Gradually increase the time between treatments
The more confident and capable you feel managing your body on your own, the better.
If you’re unsure what frequency makes sense for you, we can always figure it out together — your body is the best guide.
